Welcome back to another wildlife post, this time it’s dragonflies and damselflies. I looked up the difference and discovered from Wikipedia that “Damselflies are flying insects of the suborder Zygoptera in the order Odonata.” This means nothing to me, but being a lover of fantasy and a Dungeons and Dragons player, oh wow did it appeal to me! What a great sentence ha ha. I do know that Damselflies are similar to Dragonflies but usually with slimmer bodies and that they fold their wings when resting whereas dragonflies hold their wings out away from their body. This will help you tell the difference in the following pictures if that kind of thing is important to you. Enjoy.
Cherry eyed stick fly, delicate lace frock, clinging to life in a blink.
Alighting briefly, just enough time to admire genius grand design
Allow clean rivers I will eat your enemies mosquito snacking
Two years submerged life formidable fierce larvae. Emergence glory
Haute couture design, high end quality outfit. Name the designer
Is this real world? A formidible hunter, eating wasps and flies
Did you know this fact? Carnivore only, insects, even tiny fish
Life is short my friend, today fly in joyous sun tomorrow may rain
Thanks so much for being here again, I would like you to know I value you. Comments and your own poetry or haiku or prose inspirations are always welcome.
You may like to see some butterfly haiku in the post below, there will be more butterflies coming soon.
Thank you once again to D.F. Whalley, Wildlife Photographer, for permission to use these incredible photographs.
