That’s absolutely beautiful, the churches as well as the haiku.

I love those small old churches whose stones breathe the souls, long gone, of those who worshipped there, where footsteps have the faint echo of other footsteps ages ago.

The low doors were meant for people to bow as they entered God’s house (and of course people were much smaller then).

Beautifully put Joyce and thanks for the info about the doors, I couldn't believe how small and narrow this one was!

Thank you so much Guy. It is what brings me real joy right now, a little cycle of visiting places, the experience, learning to use the camera, coming home and downloading the photos, the excitement or disappointment whether I captured it as I 'saw' it, the learning of historical stuff or nature, then choosing photos and writing verse. It is all a marvellous distraction from anything else going on in the world ha ha. It is a pleasure to share it too and find a few other people across the globe who enjoy what I have done ❤️

Your photographs are so beautiful. The stonework, tiles and even the doors and scenery. It’s all been captured.

Thank you Monica. I marvel at stonework and doors. I love to touch everything I can and just hold my hand there and imagine what these walls have seen, imagine them being built even. I have many many pictures of old church doors, I may have to give them a post of their own 😂❤️

Nice set - the last one especially! But they all have their charms. :-)

Thank you so much Dick. When I am in these places I seem to jump between historical fascination and a fictional plane of existence where I imagine stories and the ghosts of the past. I tried to capture both in these little verse.

Love that - every place has its temporal spirit, traces and ghosts of what and who has come before. And us now, trying to make sense of it all . . .

Yes! Temporal spirit, perfect choice of words. I confess I also like to speculate on history and wonder which parts were true and which parts 'written by the victors' or 'ye olde propaganda' ha ha so I listen for the tales of the ghosts, the personal stories that spring to my mind and wonder if they might be equally true! I do get a lot out of my visits to these places as you can tell 😂

Definitely agree! Those are the most interesting parts of history right :-) The voices unheard, and unspoken - repressed and erased - silenced. It's the main inspiration for the newsletter I am doing on forgotten poetry and haiku - finding those faded ghosts, and opening some space for them speak again. It's a joyful activity I think, so I totally get it 🙂

Thank you so much Stan, I am always fascinated by how we 'tell' our stories as well as the evidence left behind
