May 2024 Week 2 - Abbey & Minster
It's the big churches this week Sherborne Abbey and Wimborne Minster
Welcome back. Last week’s diary selection of haiku had a theme of a couple of old chapels I visited recently, both of which I had the place to myself, incredible. Well this time we are visiting ‘the big guys’, two churches, an Abbey and a Minster, both within 15 minutes drive of my home, both usually busy places…. guess what…. okay, not quite to myself but so few people I was able to take a shot without another person in it!
Thirteen hundred years feet tread to holy prayer, Walter Raleigh too

Thank you so much for joining me again this week, I really do appreciate all the comments and inspirations, the haiku and poetry. I love taking you with me as I explore. A couple of galleries for those still curious and a link to a history post on exploring Mysterious Dorset.
An Astronomical Clock from 1320, Medieval murals painted over by the ‘Oh so tidy’ Victorians, A Saxon chest hewn from a single oak that held a piece of the cross amongst other things. Burial of at least a couple of Saxon Kings and Dorset’s favourite Smuggler. A chained Library!!!** There is far too much going on here for one small haiku post so for those who are interested in a little more I suggest visiting this post:
** separate haiku post to come!
or for the tiny churches post
Such beautiful architecture. I’d love to walk around those places and see them in real life. But for now, your photos and haikus do a damn good job :)
Stunning chapels and cathedrals, especially the stained glass work,
all topped off with your haiku, crafted as well as those Gothic masterpieces featured in the photos!
